Small valley between Katavati and Exambela

There is an small oasis hidden below the villages of katavati and Exambela. This green and fertile area can be shown as one of the main gardens of Sifnos. Each time we are driving along the road from Apolonnia to the southern island, we have a look at this quiet valley. Last year, we decided to stop there and take a while for walking through the numerous pathways. It is certainly the place with the most beautiful pigeon houses of the island despite some of them could be restored. Here, you will also find a lot of gardens, olives... [Lire la suite]

Avlaki (very) small rocks beach

The quest to look for undiscovered place is quite finish despite 2 or 3 places still to visit. Avlaki was potentially approachable as few old houses were marking the path. As usual descent is easy, ascent is a pain under 35°. The starting point is not easy to find as they built a new house (with swimming pool) masking the path (in fact between a first gate at the road, and the house real gate which is 50 meters away. This is near Agios  Charalambos, after leaving Artemonas in direction of Cheronissos. Some nice church will be met... [Lire la suite]

Feel local in Rampagas

Rapagas is an amazing place where people looks for different ambiances whenever they go. Quiet at every time, apart from the crowd concentrated in the main street, you will find a quiet and shady place during the day for a breakfast and a good reason to read your newspapers, write your postcards or more simply doing nothing. We go there every morning. Then, you can find the same place when the night starts in Apollonia. Right place for a drink, cool music, no pressure, greek ambiance. Definitively a place that you could not... [Lire la suite]

Unforgettable promenade in boat to the beach of Ghialoudhia !!

With our strong willingness to discover new place in Sifnos that walking cannot not offer you on a silver plate, the peeble beach of Ghialoudhia was one of them despite the village of Troulaki is not so far, there is still 400 meters of unevenness, certainly dangerous for a lonely walker. That is why the dad of Afroditi (Hotel Afroditi) offered us to take thei nice boat for a fabulous trip to Ghialoudia! First the boat is so nice and reminds us the similar boat in Marseille. Secondly, having the Island through an unusual angle is rare... [Lire la suite]

First trek in 2012 : Tsoudhalès

Tsoudhalès was more an assumption than a reality as we didn't know what we would find there. The map was showing a pathway starting from the road between Troulaki and Cheronnissos and going to Aghios Nikolaos but nothing to access the potential beach (seen on Google earth) except an old power line. This pathway offers you an unforgeattable view on Vroulidhia bay on your left handside (that you can now access with your car, shame !). It remains easy until you leave the road and start improvising the descent. It took 20... [Lire la suite]

Gastronomy in Sifnos

Sifnos is one of the best place to have a real and authentic gastronomy. Thanks to a big cooking chief and writer, Nikolaos Tselementes (1878–1958) who was native from Exambela, a small village closed to Apollonia, but also to the talent of the large offer of restaurants and pastries all over the island, Sifnos is having a wide pallet of flavors, various meals, sweets and desserts. Obviously, we are very faithful to Argiris restaurant in Agia Marina (Kamares bay) and pastry from Gerontopoulos (Kokkoi Café) in Apollonia, but... [Lire la suite]

A walk from Fykiadha bay to Chlapoko Beach

Something funny to try for an extension of 30 minutes walk after having reached Fikyadha bay from Vathy starting place (or before at the road cross section). There is a tentative of pathway (you can find it on several photos) but you will need to improvise a little bit, by using your map. The first step to achieve is to find the old farm of Mousia that you will leave on your left. Then, you walk down and catch a border of cactus. The peeble beach of Chlakopo is just behind an old border. Take care of the sea urchins as tere are many... [Lire la suite]

The Village of Kato Petali

On the road from Apollonia to Kastro, there is a small village which remains one of our favorite place : Kato Petali is a small place with quite nothing (no shop, no apparent activity, feeling asleep each time we visit it) but hides a tremendous charm for the visitor who has decided to spend a quiet time. The village can be accessible by pathways also. Many snapshots have been done to catch the hidden beauty of the small street and the church built against the school. Not too many streets, no real architectural houses as you can find... [Lire la suite]

First gallery for Apollonia showing you in few snapshots how the village is beautiful. Certainly one of the most preserved in the cyclads. Main city of the island, Apollonia is a daily stop for everything. Have a drink in Steno street, or in Rampaga which combines a restaurant and a bar in a very "greek" environment. We could not forget the Gerontopoulos pastry as another unavoidable stage later in the afternoon. Apollonia is a quiet place during the day and becomes "the place to be" in the evening. It is also a inexhaustible... [Lire la suite]

Sunsets and evening lights

Sunsets at Kamares harbour remains magical despite there is other places to admire them such as Troulaki or Cheronissos. These snapshos witness about the quiet ambiance we feel after a sunny day and before starting one more greek night.
