Panagia Vrissi

The monastery of Vrissis is a "must do" when we go to Sifnos for a couple of weeks as it brings serenity, peaceful and a real break in our "loaded" agenda. Iis is located after Exambela village on the road of Faros and Platy Gialos (0,5 km before the fork between both destinations). The easiest way is drive until a small road on the right side (direction of Kadhes). The monastery is settled on a small hill which you can reach from the road by stairs also.

After having been welcome by two kind horses, the entrance is impressive and consists of a beautiful marble portal opens onto a marble corridor offering a range of wooden doors in blue on the sides, passing under the facade of the building. Then you arrive in a courtyard with this beautiful church in the center surrounded by a walkway and square buildings.

The path around the church penetrates us with the atmosphere reinforced by this dazzling whiteness of the walls contrasting with the lush vegetation and the monastic silence we came for.

The dome of the church is white and allows, from balconies to admire including the perspective Ayios Andreas and Kastro at the opposite.

Unfortunately, the church was closed the day we went there but you can ask to look at the nice icons and holy objects inside (with dress code obviously).

Have a look on the photos (Panagia Vrissi folder).
