Kaminikou t'avlaki

This is a place where I was thinling to find, not a large sand beach, but some flat rocks or something pratical to reach the sea and spend sometimes for a rest. Unfortunately, there was nothing, the sea was stormy and there was just rocks falling down the water without any place to seat down for a while.  So a little improvisation was necessary to pass on the other side of the hill and reach the nice beach of Tsoudahles as i didn't want to walk back to the asphalt road for nothing! I'm sure that, when the weather is quiet,... [Lire la suite]

The village of Faros

Curiously I've never uploaded some photos from Faros. Maybe because we curiously don't go often there and there is no real treks to start from the village. Now, it is done! The village offers two nice beaches but the second one is the quietest place as there is no resataurants in the neighborhood. The first one is facing the small port, very typical from greek islands, one of the most picturesque with Cheronissos. Some fish taverns are located on the first beach, but too crowded. The good deal is to take the footpath at the end of... [Lire la suite]

Ayios Ioanis tou Siderou

Agios Ioannis tou Siderou is a church located near the road to Faros. In the maze of paths that leave kastro, I have preferred the simplest solution, from the asphalted road. Either just after the electric power station, or a few hundred meters later, just before Agios Vasileios. However, it was again unable to reach kalamaki. On a really positive note, I did a nice encounter with "Francesco" who offered me to taste the feta he produced.   In colclusion, the ride to Agios Ioannis tou Siderou is quite nice. The garden behind... [Lire la suite]

Treks behing Seralia and kastro

Sifnos offers many paths behing Kastro starting from Seralia in the south direction to Kalamaki and others place which remains uneasy to reach. As an example, each time I wanted to go to Kalamaki, I met closed gates forcing me to go ack to the starting point. nevertheless, Kalamaki is not a clean place for swimming. One of the next post will deal with Ayios Ioannis tou Siderou which can also reach Kalamaki, but same pain... In conclusion, and that is the main thing to remind, this trek was a nice 2 hours time, crossing some farms... [Lire la suite]

Vlasi beach (under Toso Nero)

The beach of Vlasi is the continuation of the walk to the monastery of Toso Nero. Why stop at Toso Nero when the beach is 100 meters below? We did not all that stuff for nothing! The only difficulty is finding the right path with the card as a good support and a bit of topography. There are actually several creeks following one another but they are not accessible from one to another.   Once the path is found, we pass trough succession of laurel forests all along our rocky road. Then the last part offer us beautiful... [Lire la suite]

Monastery of Toso Nero

There are several paths to reach Toso Nero, the hardest being from Kamares, climb the mountain and back down behind, especially in summer I would not recommend. The second being from the small church Ayia Barbara just before Katavati and ride through Ayios Eleftherios, then you meet the pathway coming from Kamares. I chose the simplest, going by car to Ayios Andreas and stopping up a farm before Ayia Marina. From there, a path leads past Ayia Marina which is always superb, perched on a rock and overlooking the west coast of Sifnos,... [Lire la suite]

Pebbles beach of Katergachi

Katergachi is a small bay which is between Tsoudalès and Cheronissos. This is actually a pebble beach easily accessible as there is really no way to get there but only a "hollow" between two hills. The starting point is the same as when you walk to Ayios Filipos offering us to admire the view of Vlichada bay. No real interest to be there but a one hour trek to start last year vacations if i rememer well. However, there is  another bay after Tsoudales that I shall visit this year. Otherwise, a stop at Ayios Filipos... [Lire la suite]

Panagia Vrissi

The monastery of Vrissis is a "must do" when we go to Sifnos for a couple of weeks as it brings serenity, peaceful and a real break in our "loaded" agenda. Iis is located after Exambela village on the road of Faros and Platy Gialos (0,5 km before the fork between both destinations). The easiest way is drive until a small road on the right side (direction of Kadhes). The monastery is settled on a small hill which you can reach from the road by stairs also. After having been welcome by two kind horses, the entrance is impressive and... [Lire la suite]

Mousia Farm

Mousia meaning goats in Greek, you will easily understand the name of this farm located between the beaches of Fikiada and Xlakopo. Legend says that the owners of the house went up in disaster leaving furniture and ornaments in the state. However, this is a pretty and forsaked farmhouse to restore with a hacienda surrounded by high walls. The only inhabitants today are the goats we tried to surprise sleeping on the beds. We found inside the woodena nd blue wardrobes in the walls. A ladder placed inside the patio allows you... [Lire la suite]

Agriabela !

On the road starting from Artemonas in the direction of the north, there is, a few kilometers after, a small road down to the church of Skaloto. From here there is a departure path which is nevertheless not so obvious to find, but that leads you towards the cap Agriabela, leaving on your right an old tower (see photo). Then suddenly an ancient source is offering you a fresh break in a curve. The path alternates with stone walls, bamboo and olive trees and definitively stops to an old abandoned farm. From there, begins the descent... [Lire la suite]
